The mission of the Deerfield Garden Club is to foster a deeper appreciation for the art of gardening and the science of horticulture within our community. We are dedicated to the beautification of our historic town, the protection of our local environment, and the education of our members. Through collaborative projects, shared knowledge, and a commitment to sustainable practices, we strive to preserve Deerfield’s natural charm for generations to come.

Gardening Season

The Deerfield Garden Club’s gardening season runs from April through November each year, when members actively plant, maintain, and care for the club’s nine community gardens throughout town. During these months, members gather regularly to tend the gardens, collaborate on beautification projects, and enjoy the shared experience of keeping Deerfield in bloom.

Meet Our Leadership

President: Robin

President: Robin

Robin is always growing something: ideas, plans, gardens, or the next adventure! She loves a perfectly organized list (color-coded, naturally), bringing people together for meaningful events, getting lost in a great book, cooking something delicious, and exploring new places near and far. With her hands in the soil and her heart rooted in community, Robin appreciates what an honor it is to serve as The Deerfield Garden Club President. Together, we’re planting seeds of beauty, friendship, and growth; and the best blooms are still ahead.

Treasurer: Amanda

Treasurer: Amanda

Amanda joined the Garden Club of Deerfield in 2023 and happily dug into the role of treasurer in 2024. She moved to Deerfield in 2015 and proudly identifies as a chaos gardener, filling her yard with New Hampshire native plants and pollinator-friendly spaces that are meant to grow a little wild. In 2025, her garden earned Pollinator-Friendly certification from the University of Maine and UNH Cooperative Extension, and is also recognized as a Certified Monarch Waystation and Hummingbird Haven. Amanda loves caring for shared community spaces, learning all she can about native plants, and exploring local trails and gardens with her four children. When she’s not chasing pollinators, she’s usually chasing kids.

Secretary: Christina

Secretary: Christina

Christina Lewis joined the Deerfield Garden Club in 2019 after she and her husband moved from a half-acre property in Framingham, MA to a 31-acre farm in Deerfield. Eager to learn from experienced gardeners, she quickly immersed herself in the club’s community garden projects, gaining confidence and knowledge that she now applies to cultivating her own land. Chris completed the UNH Extension Master Gardener Program in 2023 and the UNH Extension New Farmer School in 2024. On her property, she focuses on nurturing native species and growing food for her family in a large fenced vegetable and fruit garden, while continuing to explore food preservation and future interests like hydroponic growing. Since 2023, Chris has served as the Garden Club’s Secretary, bringing decades of nonprofit record-keeping experience and thoughtful documentation to the role. Above all, she values the friendships formed through the club and the meaningful conversations that happen while working side-by-side in the garden.

Community Manager: Rachel

Community Manager: Rachel

Rachel has been a member of the Deerfield Garden Club for just over a year and is honored to serve as the club’s Committee Manager: a new role focused on improving organization and creating a clear record of our projects so the club continues to run smoothly. Before becoming a stay-at-home mom to two young children, she spent 10 years working in professional kitchens after studying culinary arts, where she developed a love for process and teamwork. When Rachel is not with her kids, you’ll find her in her garden; especially tending her favorite crops, garlic and tomatoes, which she loves preserving for the winter. Having lived in Deerfield for 27 years, Rachel is proud to help beautify the town she loves, and one of her favorite projects so far has been the Gazebo Glow Up, where our club came together to transform an overgrown space into a vibrant garden for the community to enjoy.

Garden Manager: Sara

Garden Manager: Sara

After moving to Deerfield in 1999, Sara began working at Van Berkum Nursery in 2004, where her passion for gardening and plants inspired her to complete the Master Gardener program later that year. In 2006, Sara began working with Deerfield’s Road Agent to design and plant gardens in several town traffic triangles: an effort that grew into broader beautification projects around town. When the Garden Club of Deerfield was revived in 2011 by Lorraine Cady and Lynn Garland, Sara was thrilled to join and has been a member ever since. She loves the camaraderie of people willing to get their hands dirty to create beautiful spaces for our community and to share knowledge about growing things. Outside of gardening, she enjoys observing nature, especially birds and wildlife, being active at Grace Church in Manchester, and spending time with a large family, which includes four children, twenty grandchildren, and one great-grandchild; with another on the way.
